An estimated 143 million U.S. consumers may be affected by the data breach announced by Equifax on September 7, 2017. Equifax reported the breach lasted mid-May through July and exposed Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and in some instances, driver’s license numbers. This is a significant data breach due to the large number of people affected. Although Member 1^st Credit Union does not use Equifax for credit inquiries, we do report credit information from loans to multiple credit bureaus including Equifax.
