Equifax Data Breach: What you need to know

An estimated 143 million U.S. consumers may be affected by the data breach announced by Equifax on September 7, 2017. Equifax reported the breach lasted mid-May through July and exposed Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and in some instances, driver’s license numbers. This is a significant data breach due to the large number of people affected. Although Member 1st Credit Union does not use Equifax for credit inquiries, we do report credit information from loans to multiple credit bureaus including Equifax. Members are encouraged to review the specific details of the data breach and take advantage of the free year of credit monitoring offered by Equifax at www.EquifaxSecurity2017.com. Further details about the Equifax breach can be found at the Federal Trade Commission’s website.
